Last week, I was having the carpets in my house professionally cleaned. I had requested the appointment via the carpet company's website so I corresponded via email with the owner to schedule the appointment.
What I didn't know at the time, is that my email signature which contains links to my websites, peaked his curiosity. He clicked on the links and discovered my voice over business.
While showing him through the house so he could see where he would be cleaning, I took him to my recording room and asked him to be careful to not bump the microphone. He said, "So this is where you record!" I was surprised and he confessed that he had checked out my website.
Then he went on to tell me that he knew of two agencies that he could refer me to that needed voice artists! And before he left for the day, I already had an email from one of the contacts. Who would have ever thought their carpet cleaner guy would be making referrals to them? I sure didn't.
